The DataPrism home page

The home page is the landing screen of DataPrism: it lists every report and semantic model you can reach. The workspaces panel sits beside it, holding the same items as a tree.

Pick a tab

TabWhat it shows
ReportsReports only. The home page opens on this tab.
ModelsSemantic models only.
SubscriptionsYour email subscriptions, covered in Email subscriptions.
VisualsThe custom visual library, covered in Visual library.

Subscriptions appears when you can create subscriptions or see other people's subscriptions. Visuals appears when custom visuals are enabled on your DataMind OS and you hold a matching permission. A tab you cannot use is not shown at all.

The header carries New report and New semantic model. Each button appears only if you may create that item, and neither appears when you may create neither. To build one, see Build a report and Semantic models and BI tables.

Read the feed as cards or as a table

Use the Cards or Table toggle; the tooltips read Show as cards and Show as a table.

Until you pick a view, up to 10 items of the active tab show as cards and more show as a table. The feed decides that by the item count and never saves that decision; only a click on the toggle is your choice, and your choice is saved to your account. If it cannot be saved, you see View not saved.

In the Table view you can show, hide and rearrange columns, and the layout is remembered. The Name column stays pinned to the left and cannot be hidden, the filter menus offer Reset to clear a filter, and an export of the list is named after the tab (dataprism-reports or dataprism-semantic-models) and leaves Last opened out.

Open an item from the feed

  1. Find the item in a section or a row.
  2. Click it, or press Enter or Space, to open the report or the semantic model.
  3. To act on it instead, point at a card to reveal its actions button, or right-click a row. Both open the same menu the workspaces panel offers; picking an action there never also opens the item.

Opening an item updates Recents.

What the sections hold

An item appears under every section it belongs to. The Table view folds the sections into a single list, so the same item does not appear twice there.

A section with nothing to show says so in a short line, for example No recent items on Recents or Your workspace is empty on My reports. While a search runs, sections only list matches: a section with no match reads Nothing here matches your search., and a tab with nothing of its kind reads This section has no reports in the current view., or This section has no semantic models in the current view. on Models.

Search the feed

  1. Type at least two characters in Search reports, models, charts, columns and measures....
  2. The search matches item names, and it also reaches chart titles and the models' tables, columns and measures.
  3. A match through something other than the name shows chips on the card, such as Chart, Measure, Table or Column, or a hint like Revenue · uses Region. Up to three show, and +N more counts the rest. Chips explain the match only; the card still opens the item.
  4. If the current tab has no match but the other kind does, a hint above the list offers the switch: No reports match "revenue" - 2 semantic models do. with a Show semantic models button.

While a search runs, the Reports and Models tabs show their result counts, and the previous list stays on screen until the new results arrive. In the Table view the search field is the list's own Search box; on Visuals the search reads Search visuals....

Sort the list

  1. In the Table view, click a column heading to sort. The Cards sections follow the same order.
  2. Pick a key: Name, Last modified, Modified by, Created, Created by, Workspace or Last opened. On Reports you can also sort by Status, Access and Semantic model.
  3. Names and people sort A to Z; dates and Last opened start newest first. Items without a value sink to the bottom either way; ties fall back to the name.
  4. A key the current tab cannot show, such as Status on Models, is left unapplied; your choice is kept and returns when you switch back.

Your sort is remembered in this browser for your account.

What a row or card can show

You seeWhat it means
Published or DraftA report's status. A report you create starts as Draft.
View onlyYou can open the item but not change it. Items you can edit carry no marker.
A dash in Last openedThis browser holds no visit time; the item was opened on another device.
Earlier in Last openedYou last opened the item more than six months ago.

Last opened shows how long ago you opened an item: 30 minutes ago, 1 week ago, 5 months ago, and Earlier once six months have passed. It never shows a calendar date. A dash means the item was opened on another device: point at it and the tooltip reads Opened on another device. Modified by and Created by show the person; your own name reads You.

Questions, answered

Why did the feed open as a table instead of cards?

Until you pick a view, the feed decides by the item count: up to 10 items show as cards and more show as a table. That automatic decision is never saved. Once you click Cards or Table yourself, your choice is saved to your account and the feed keeps it.

Why does a search match an item whose name does not contain my word?

Search does not read names alone. It also matches chart titles and the models' tables, columns and measures, so a report or model can match through something inside it. The chips on the card tell you how it matched, for example Column or Revenue · uses Region.

Why does a hint offer me a different tab after a search?

The hint appears when the tab you are on has no match while the other kind has some. Its sentence counts the other kind (No reports match "revenue" - 2 semantic models do.), and its button (Show semantic models or Show reports) switches tabs.

Why can I not sort by Status or Access on the Models tab?

Status, Access and Semantic model are report keys, so the Models tab leaves them unapplied. Your choice is not forgotten: switch back to Reports and the same sort returns.

Why does the same item appear in two sections?

An item appears under every section it belongs to: on Recents because you opened it, and on My reports or Shared with me because of where it lives. The Table view folds the sections into one list, so there the item is a single row.

Why does everything in my role workspaces appear under Shared with me?

Shared with me means "you can open it and it is not yours", so it also lists everything in the role workspaces you hold. That is by design, not a sharing mistake.

Why does Last opened show a dash?

A dash means this browser holds no visit time for the item, so it was last opened on another device. Point at the dash: the tooltip reads Opened on another device. Open the item here and this browser starts showing its time.

Why is a section empty?

A section with nothing to show says so in a short line, such as No recent items on Recents. While a search is on, sections only list matches, so an empty one reads Nothing here matches your search.; clear the search to see everything again. A tab with nothing of its kind reads This section has no reports in the current view., or the semantic models wording on Models.

How long do items stay in Recents?

Recents follows what you open, for the last 30 days, and shows up to 12 items. Older items drop off on their own; open one again and it comes back.

Can I link a colleague straight to the subscriptions list?

Yes. Add ?tab=subscriptions to the home page address and the link opens the Subscriptions list; ?tab=visuals opens Visuals. For create dialogs, ?modal=create-report and ?modal=create-semantic-model open the dialog once and then clear themselves; without the matching create permission, a create link opens nothing.

What do Published and Draft mean on a report?

They are the report's status; a report you create starts as Draft. See Build a report for how a report gets made and saved.
