Notifications and dialogs

The console tells you what happened while you work: short notifications report results, and dialogs ask before it does something that is hard to undo. This page covers how both behave, and the messages you meet when a request fails.

Notifications

The console reports the result of an action with a short notification: a save, a copy, a company switch or a failure. Each notification carries a heading that names its kind: Success, Error, Warning or Information. A plain message is headed Notification.

Confirmation dialogs

Before an action that is hard to undo, such as removing a member, the console asks for confirmation.

Unsaved changes

When you close a dialog that holds unsaved edits, the console asks first. Unsaved Changes reads You have unsaved changes. If you close, your changes will be lost. Choose Discard & Close to close without saving, or Keep Editing to go back to the dialog.

For tables with unsaved edits, the same prompt appears with its own choices, Discard & Continue or Stay on Page; Tables overview describes that flow.

When a request fails

Two messages cover most failures:

Screens your role cannot open, and addresses that do not exist, are separate: they open Access denied and Page not found, described on Console screens, access and errors.

Questions, answered

How long does a notification stay on screen?

A Success notification stays for 1.5 seconds, a plain one for 3 seconds, and an Error for 5 seconds. Point at a notification to pause its timer. The console shows one notification at a time.

The message was cut off. How do I read all of it?

A notification longer than three lines shows Tap to read full message. Click it, or press Enter or Space while it has focus, to open the whole text; Copy copies it and Close closes the view.

How do I dismiss a notification without waiting?

Click its close control, press Escape, or drag it downwards.

Which key moves focus to the notifications?

F8. Press it to reach the notifications without using the pointer.

How do I copy what a notification says?

Use the copy control on the notification; the console confirms with Copied to clipboard. If the message was cut off, open it in full first: in the full view, Copy confirms with Copied!.

Why did a dialog appear in red?

Red marks an action that removes or destroys something, such as deleting or revoking. The label and the main button are red so that the action stands out before you confirm it.

Why does a dialog not close while it is working?

The console is still running the action, shown as Saving… or Processing… on the main button. Escape and clicks outside do nothing, and the close control and Cancel are disabled until it finishes, so the action cannot be interrupted halfway. When it completes, the dialog closes on its own.

What happens to my edits if I close a dialog?

The console asks first with Unsaved Changes: You have unsaved changes. If you close, your changes will be lost. Discard & Close closes the dialog without saving them; Keep Editing returns you to the dialog.

What does "Unable to reach the server" mean?

The console did not get an answer from the platform, or the platform is temporarily unable to answer. Check your connection and that the platform is running, then try again. The message also appears on the sign-in screens; for those, see Get access and sign in.

What does "Something went wrong. Please try again." mean?

The request failed and no specific reason could be read for it. Try the action again. When the platform sends a reason, the console shows that reason instead of this fallback.

Will a screen reader announce a notification?

Yes. An Error or Warning notification is announced immediately, over anything else being read. Success and Information notifications wait until the screen reader is free.
