Chat navigation and stats

A long chat is easy to lose your place in. Oda keeps a rail that outlines every turn so you can jump back to one, and a statistics strip that shows the chat's counts and timings. This page covers both; the conversation itself is covered in Chat with Oda.

Jump between turns

The rail outlines every turn the chat has started, in order, with one card per turn. A card appears as soon as its turn starts.

To jump to a turn, select its card. A jump goes to where the turn began. If that part of the chat is not loaded yet, Oda loads it first, so the whole turn is there when you land.

How the chat follows new output and pages through older history is covered in Reading and navigating a chat.

What a card shows

What the statistics strip shows

The statistics strip shows the chat's totals:

FigureWhat it counts
TurnsTurns that finished at least one step. An empty turn, or one that was rejected before a step finished, is not counted.
StepsSteps that finished, whatever their outcome: completed, failed, cancelled and steps that ran out of tokens all count.
Model timeThe time the model spent working on the chat's steps.
Tool timeThe time the chat spent in tool calls.
Time to first tokenThe wait until a step produces its first output, with the number of steps it was measured over.
Decode timeThe time the model spent producing a reply after its first token.
Decode tokensThe number of output tokens the replies produced.

A few things to know about the figures:

How the chat and its history are stored and searched on this computer is covered in Chat history storage and search.

Questions, answered

Can I jump to a turn that is not loaded yet?

Yes. Select its card and Oda loads that part of the chat first, then lands on the turn. The whole turn is loaded when you land on it.

Why does a turn's card show no answer yet?

The answer preview appears when the turn settles. While Oda is still working on the turn, the card shows your prompt only.

Why is a preview shorter than the message it comes from?

Previews are cut to fit the card: a prompt preview is one line of up to 50 characters, and an answer preview is up to three lines of 120 characters. Clipped text ends in an ellipsis, and the full text stays in the conversation.

Why does a card have no text at all?

A turn with nothing to preview, such as one made only of images, keeps its previews empty. The card still marks the turn by its number.

How often does the rail change while Oda works?

At most three times per turn: when the turn starts, when your message lands, and when the turn settles. Between those moments the card stays as it is.

What counts as a turn in the figures?

A turn counts once at least one of its steps finishes. An empty turn, or one that was rejected before a step finished, is not counted.

What counts as a step in the figures?

Every step that finishes, whatever its outcome: completed, failed, cancelled and steps that ran out of tokens all count. A cancelled step adds no time to the figures.

Why do the figures show 0?

Each figure stays at 0 until the chat produces the events it counts. A chat whose steps have not finished yet shows zeros.

Do the figures cover the whole chat or only what is loaded?

The whole chat. They are built from the chat's full history rather than the part on screen, so paging back through a long chat does not change them, and neither does an older part of the chat having been summarised.

Does an interrupted step still count?

Yes. A step that was interrupted, for example when the app closed mid-step, still counts once the chat is reloaded.
