Appearance and font size

DataMind Oda can look light or dark, or follow your computer, and the text of your conversations can be larger or smaller. In a browser, the mode cards and the Font size row sit in Settings > General; in the DataMind Oda desktop app, the Font size row stays in General and, while Oda is signed in to your DataMind account, the look has its own Settings > Appearance page.

Choose the look

  1. Open Settings and find the Appearance controls: the Appearance row in General in a browser, or the Appearance page in the desktop app.
  2. Pick a card. The three cards always show in the same order, each previewing its look:
    • Light, White islands on mist.
    • Dark, Midnight canvas.
    • System, Follows your computer.
  3. Oda switches to your choice straight away.

Pick a colour theme

Colour themes come from your DataMind server and are part of the account look. Under the title, the page says: Saved to your DataMind account, so DataMind Oda looks the same as DataMind in the browser.

  1. Open Settings > Appearance while Oda is signed in to your DataMind account.
  2. Under Color theme, pick a card.
  3. Oda applies it straight away and saves it to your account.

Set the conversation font size

  1. Open Settings > General and find the Font size row.
  2. Step the size with Decrease font size and Increase font size; the current value shows beside them in px.

What the look covers

Questions, answered

Why is the look a row in one place and a page in another?

In a browser, the mode cards sit inside Settings > General as the Appearance row. In the desktop app the look is managed by your DataMind account, so it has its own Settings > Appearance page; General keeps only the Font size row.

Which parts of a chat follow the font size?

Conversation content: the text of messages, headings and tables. Small text and code keep their fixed sizes, and the rest of the app outside the conversation does not change.

What do the labels on the theme cards mean?

Built-in palette marks DataMind Light and DataMind Dark. Your theme marks themes saved by you, and Published marks themes others have published for everyone. A draft carries Not published yet. Only published themes can be chosen., and a theme saved without a name shows as Untitled theme.

Why is the theme list stuck on loading, and what if it fails?

While Oda reads the list from your DataMind server, the section shows Loading color themes…. If the read fails, it shows Could not load the color themes. with a Retry button: choose Retry to read the list again, and if it keeps failing, check the connection from this computer to your DataMind server.

Can I use a mode and a colour theme at the same time?

No. A colour theme decides light or dark by itself, and while one is active no mode card is checked: The selected color theme decides light or dark. Choosing a mode switches back to the built-in palette. Picking a mode returns Oda to the built-in palette.

What happens to the look while I am signed out?

Oda falls back to System and applies no colour theme. The Appearance page is not shown while Oda cannot read your account, and your saved look comes back once the account answers again.

Why did my change jump back to the previous choice?

A change that cannot be saved to your account is rolled back, and Oda shows Could not save the change to your DataMind account. Try again. Try again; if your sign-in has ended, sign in first.

Does Oda open in my chosen look straight away?

Yes. Oda paints its opening screen in your chosen light or dark colours before anything else loads, so you do not see a flash of the wrong colours. While System is chosen, the opening screen follows your computer too.

Why is my look not applied in a browser on another computer?

A page opened from another computer does not read or save your choices, so changes made there last for that visit only. In the desktop app, sign in on that computer and your account's look comes back.
