DataMind Oda works with your company's data in DataMind OS: it asks the Minds, checks the numbers, exports full results and turns them into documents and reports. This page covers what it can reach and what it can make.
DataMind Oda reaches your company's data through the Minds of your DataMind OS. It uses your own DataMind OS account, so it never sees more than you can. Not every Mind can be asked: builder Minds, such as the Warehouse and Lake builders, and the helper Minds behind individual platform features are left out, so they never appear in its Mind lists. Your account needs the Use Minds from DataMind Oda permission; View Minds, which opens the Minds area of DataMind OS, is not needed.
You ask in your own words; Oda decides which of these to use:
| What you want | What Oda does |
|---|---|
| An answer to a business question | Asks the right Mind and gives you its answer, often with a chart or KPIs. If the Mind needs more detail, Oda asks you. A long answer keeps running on your DataMind server, and Oda fetches it when you ask. |
| To see what data there is | Lists the Minds you can use, and the tables and columns a Mind reads, with primary keys and the columns that can be empty, one table at a time or the whole schema at once. |
| To check the numbers | Runs a read-only query on a Mind's tables and shows a preview of the result in the chat. For all rows, ask for the full result as a file. |
| The full result as a file | Saves the complete result in the workspace as CSV or Excel, in the exports folder unless you name another. |
| Definitions and documents | Searches a Mind's documents and business definitions, in every folder or in one, and lists the knowledge cards a Mind has. |
The tools behind this work, with their limits and the messages they can return, are covered in Company data tools.
Oda creates and edits Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in the workspace. Describe the
result you want, including the layout. In the chat, a reply can also carry live visuals: chart,
kpi and mermaid blocks render as charts, KPI cards and diagrams, and a block whose opening line
is malformed, such as a chart type written into its name (charttype: bar), is repaired and still
renders. For how the rest of a reply renders, see
Command output, diffs and previews.
The files Oda made appear as cards at the end of its answer: Preview in sidebar opens a file in the side panel, and Open in Excel, or the file's own app, opens it there. See Deliverables for the cards themselves, and Preview Office documents for reading Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in the side panel.
To repeat the report regularly, turn it into a scheduled task.
No. Oda only reads company data. Queries are read-only.
Not every Mind can be asked. Builder Minds, such as the Warehouse and Lake builders, and the helper Minds behind individual platform features are left out, so they do not appear in Oda's lists. If Oda sees no Minds at all, ask your administrator for the Use Minds from DataMind Oda permission.
Not from every Mind. A Mind that runs queries as each user cannot export yet: the request is refused with Exporting is not available yet for Minds that run queries as each user. Ask for a preview of the result in the chat.
Yes. Point it at the file with @ or name it, and say what to change.
Ask for the full result as a file: Oda saves the complete result in the workspace as CSV or Excel, and the chat shows only a preview. See Export query results.
