Select context tables and source systems
The Select context tables panel is the shared picker for choosing the tables a Mind, a dependency or a query should use. This page is the reference for the panel itself, and for the source systems you can mark on each selected table.
You meet the panel in flows such as Link data to a Mind, and when you manage a transformation's dependencies in Build, test and finalize a transformation.
Select the tables you need
- Select the tables to use. Warehouse tables and Lake tables appear in their own columns.
- To narrow the list, type in Search tables.... The search matches the table's name and the second name it keeps for search. Clear the box with Clear search.
- Tick Selected only to review just the tables you have selected so far.
- To take everything at once, use Select all. While a search is active the control reads Select all shown and selects only the rows you can see, so it can never add a table the search is hiding.
The badge at the top of the panel counts your selection, for example 3/48 selected. When only some tables are selected, the checkbox shows a partly selected state.
What the list shows
- Only deployed tables are listed. A table that is not deployed does not appear; deploy it first in the Lake or the Warehouse, then reopen the panel.
- Every table keeps a second name that the search looks at but the list does not show: the technical name for a Warehouse table, and the source-system name for a Lake table. This is why a search can match a table whose name on screen does not contain your term.
- A Lake table appears under its physical, prefixed name.
- While the list loads it reads Loading available tables.... An empty Warehouse column reads No Warehouse tables available; an empty Lake column reads No Lake tables available.
- For how roles get access to the tables, and how row-level security limits the rows they read, see Warehouse permissions and row-level security.
Choose the source systems behind a table
Once a table is selected, you can mark which of its source systems the selection covers.
- Find the selected table and open its source-systems picker. The trigger is labelled Choose source systems, and it previews your picks: two names plus a count of the rest, for example
a, b +1.
- In the popover, the header reads Source systems and the table's name. The options are grouped, and a group with no options is left out; the default group is Available.
- Click an option to mark it, and click it again to unmark it.
- Check the footer under the options: it counts your marks, for example
2 of 6.
- To start over, click Clear. It unmarks every source system for that table, and the table itself stays selected.
- The picker appears only under selected tables that have source systems.
- With nothing marked, the picker shows Optional: marking source systems is not required, and a table can be selected without them.
- To search the options, type in Search.... When nothing matches, the popover reads No matches.
- What you mark decides which of the table's source systems the selection covers. Source systems themselves are covered in Semantic sources, source systems and logical models.
Filter to unmapped rows
Mapping views in Dictionary and Static tables can offer an Unmapped filter beside the view's other filters. The label carries a count of the rows it finds, for example Unmapped (12).
Turn it on to show only the unmapped rows: the rows that hold no value in the columns the view checks. Its tooltip reads "Filter to unmapped rows only"; while it is on, the tooltip reads "Showing unmapped rows only - click to show all".
- Only unlocked text columns that you defined take part in the check.
- Locked columns, number, date and list columns, primary-key columns, and system columns such as Source Id, Delete Flag and Security Labels, are never checked.
- The count is calculated on the server for the rows in the current view. If the view has no column it can check, no count is shown.
Questions, answered
Which tables can I select?
Warehouse and Lake tables that are deployed. Both kinds are listed, each in its own column. A table that is not deployed does not appear, so deploy it in the Lake or the Warehouse first, then reopen the panel.
Does Select all include tables my search is hiding?
No. While a search is active the control reads Select all shown and selects only the rows you can see, so it can never add a hidden table. Clear the search to select from the whole list.
Why did a table match my search even though its name doesn't show the term?
The search also looks at the second name each table keeps for search: the technical name for a Warehouse table, and the source-system name for a Lake table. That name is not shown in the list.
Why don't I see a source-systems picker under a table?
The picker appears only under the tables you have selected that have source systems. If a table has no source systems, there is nothing to choose.
What does Optional mean in the source systems picker?
Nothing is marked for that table yet, and nothing has to be. The picker is optional: you can select a table without marking any of its source systems.
How do I remove all the source systems I marked?
Open the picker under that table and click Clear. It unmarks every source system for that table, and the table itself stays selected.
How do I check what I have selected so far?
The badge at the top of the panel counts your selection, for example 3/48 selected. Tick Selected only to show just the rows you have picked.
What does the Unmapped filter mean?
It shows only the unmapped rows: rows that hold no value in the columns the view checks. The label carries the count of the rows it finds.
Why does the Unmapped count skip some columns?
Only unlocked text columns that you defined take part. Locked columns, number, date and list columns, primary-key columns, and system columns such as Source Id, Delete Flag and Security Labels, are never checked.
