Use Admin > Platform > Updates on a self-managed installation to check every service for a newer image, download images ahead of time, and install a DataMind OS update. The same tab updates the Installer, the component that installs and updates DataMind OS.
The tab opens when your role grants Check For Platform Updates, and the check runs as soon as it opens. The update actions need Execute Platform Update; without it you can read the page but not change anything. On an installation DataMind manages for you, this tab does not appear; see Platform.
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Update available | The image is on this host and a newer one is published. An update recreates this service. |
| Up to date | The image on this host is the newest published one. |
| Not pulled | The image is not on this host yet, so there is nothing local to compare. Pull images downloads it. |
| Registry error | The image could not be compared with its registry. Hover the badge to read the reason, then click Check again. |
The page checks when it opens and does not refresh the check on its own; click Check again after a new version is published. When nothing has a newer version, the page reads Every service is on its latest image.
If the check cannot be run at all, the tab explains what is wrong and offers Retry.
Pull images only downloads the newer images; it recreates nothing. Use it ahead of a maintenance window so the update has less to fetch.
Pull images appears only with Execute Platform Update, and it is greyed out while nothing has an update or a pull is starting.
<n> services will be pulled and recreated: <names>. Read the list before you confirm.<names> - expect a short outage for everyone. Shown when a critical service is in the update.<n> · <healthy>/<total> healthy with a mark per service. Click Watch logs live to open the Logs tab on its live view.An update recreates the services it lists. When a critical service is among them, expect a short outage for everyone.
You can leave the tab, and even reload the page, while the job runs; the update keeps going. A banner at the bottom of every page reads Updating DataMind OS, and View brings you back.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| DataMind OS updated and a five-second countdown | The update finished and the interface was replaced. The page reloads by itself to run the new frontend. Cancel stops the countdown; Reload now reloads at once. After the reload, a toast reads You are now on the new version. |
The toast DataMind OS updated, reading Updated: <names> or Every service is on its latest image. | The update finished. No reload is needed. |
| DataMind OS update failed | The update did not finish. Read the job output on the tab, or open it with View on the banner, for the reason. |
| DataMind OS update cancelled | The job was cancelled before it finished. |
| Update job no longer tracked | The Installer no longer keeps the job's record, so the page cannot read its result. Check the service states on the Services tab and click Check again here. |
The takeover stays on the tab until you click Dismiss, so you can read the output after the fact.
The Installer card sits below the check table. It installs and updates DataMind OS, and updating it does not restart DataMind OS.
The card reports each outcome:
Update Installer appears only with Execute Platform Update. It is greyed out when nothing is available or another job holds it; its tooltip reads Wait for the running job to finish first or Already on the newest image. If the card's check fails, it shows the reason in place of the badges; click Check again.
Yes. The job runs on the installation, not in the tab. A banner at the bottom of every page reads Updating DataMind OS, and View brings you back; the progress also streams in the Logs tab. Leaving, or reloading, the page does not stop the update.
Pull images only downloads the newer images; nothing is recreated. Update DataMind OS pulls and recreates the services that have updates, which is what applies a new version. The pull runs as a job in the Services tab job list, so you can watch it there.
Either nothing has a newer version, so the page reads Every service is on its latest image., or an update is already starting. If the button is missing entirely, together with Pull images, your role lacks Execute Platform Update.
Read its tooltip. Wait for the running job to finish first means another job is running; Already on the newest image means there is nothing to install. Without Execute Platform Update the button does not appear at all.
The update replaced the interface itself, and the confirmation said so before you started. The banner counts down five seconds and reloads the page so the new frontend runs; Cancel stops the countdown, and Reload now reloads at once. After the reload, a toast reads You are now on the new version.
Services are recreated in waves. The line counts how many services of the current wave are healthy so far; a tick marks a healthy service, a red cross marks one that is not, and a spinner marks one still starting. If a service does not come back healthy, the update fails and its output names the service.
The banner and the tab read DataMind OS update failed. Click View on the banner to open the takeover: its footer shows the reason, or The update did not finish. when there is none, and the job output stays on screen. The same output streams in the Logs tab. For the messages this area shows and what to do, see Administration troubleshooting.
The Installer stopped keeping the job's record before its result could be read, usually because the record aged out or the Installer was replaced. The page cannot say how the update ended: check the service states on the Services tab, and click Check again here. If an update is still available, run it again.
Sometimes, briefly. Services are recreated while the update runs, and when a critical service is among them everyone sees a short outage. The confirmation warns: Critical services affected: <names> - expect a short outage for everyone. Read it before you confirm. Nobody has to do anything afterwards.
No. The update pulls and recreates every service that has a newer version, and the confirmation lists them. To act on a single service, use the Services tab: see Platform services.
Not pulled means the image is not on this host yet, so there is nothing local to compare; Pull images downloads it. Update available means the image is here and a newer one is published, so an update recreates that service. Click Check again after a pull or an update to see the new states.
