Oda keeps small signals around the chat so you can tell what is running and what waits for you without opening the Activity panel. The panel itself and the runs inside it are covered in Activity and Activity rows and actions.
| Signal | Where you see it | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Activity pill | The top of the chat | How many runs are under way and how many wait for you |
| Activity tab | The side panel | The running count, and a dot while something needs you |
| Steps chip | Above the message box | How far a checklist has come, and the step Oda is on |
| STEPS card | Activity | The whole checklist and its progress |
| Digest | A chat with no messages | How many other chats need you |
The pill sits at the top of the chat and reports this chat's work in plain counts:
Press the pill to reveal Activity. In VS Code the same press opens a compact form of the view near the pill; press Escape, or press outside it, to close it.
The pill stays out of the way when it has nothing to say:
Runs that are scheduled to happen across Oda belong to no single chat, so they never add to a chat's counts.
When the needs-you count rises, Oda announces it to screen readers.
The side panel's Activity tab carries a small chip with the running count, like 3 running, and adds a dot when something needs you. Select the tab to open the full view.
While Oda works through a checklist of steps, a chip above the message box shows how it is going: a small shape at the start, the count of done steps out of the total, like 3/7, a short bar, and the step being worked on now.
The same checklist, in full, is the STEPS card in Activity, with its progress. The card lists up to seven steps; Show all opens the rest.
A chat with no messages yet can show one more signal: a line under its greeting that counts the chats waiting on you, like 2 chats need you →. Only your chats count; helper chats that belong to another chat's work are left out. Select the line to open the first chat that is waiting. When no chat waits on you, the line is not shown.
Nothing is running beside the chat and nothing waits for you, so the pill has nothing to report and hides. It also steps aside while the side panel shows Activity for this chat.
4 running counts the runs under way beside this chat. 1 needs you counts what waits for your attention. When both apply, the pill shows both counts.
Press the pill to open Activity. The run that waits is marked there; open it from its row to see what it needs. Activity rows and actions takes the row apart.
It marks that something needs you. The dot sits on the same chip as the running count, so the tab shows it as soon as you look at the panel.
No. Each chat's pill reports that chat's own runs and waiting items. To spot chats that wait on you from elsewhere, use the digest on a blank chat.
The step Oda is working on now. The count beside it, like 3/7, is how far the checklist has come, and a short bar shows it too.
It lists seven steps at a time; Show all opens the rest of the checklist.
Your chats where Oda is waiting for something from you. Helper chats that belong to another chat's work are not counted.
To the first chat that is waiting on you. When nothing waits, the line is not shown.
The counts update as work starts, finishes or starts waiting, and when the needs-you count rises, Oda announces it to screen readers.
