Everything that uses a table is listed on one tab of its popup: Dependant in a Lake table's popup, Dependants in a static table's. Check the list before you change, drop or delete a table, so you know what your change can affect.
Open the table's popup and switch to the tab; see Configure a table for the popup itself.
slide 4 or slides 4, 7.For what each kind can be, see Dependants: what uses a table.
Click a row to open the object it points to. A pencil button appears on a row you can open; its tooltip names the action for that kind:
| Kind | Pencil tooltip |
|---|---|
| Dimension | Edit dimension |
| Fact | Edit fact |
| Dictionary | Edit dictionary |
| Static | Edit static |
| View | Edit view |
| Transformation | Edit transformation |
| Lake | Edit lake |
| Mind | Start new chat |
| WriteBack | Edit write-back |
| Reference | Edit reference |
| Presentation | Open presentation |
| SemanticModel | Open semantic model |
On a Mind row:
Not every row opens:
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Static Not Created with Please save the static table first to view its dependants | A static table's tab, before the table is saved. | Save the table first. |
| No dependants found with This table is not currently used by any downstream objects. | The check ran and found nothing that uses the table. | Nothing; the table is not in use. |
| Failed to load dependants with Retry | The list could not load; the reason appears below the heading. | Click Retry; if it keeps failing, see Lake troubleshooting. |
| Dependants could not be determined | Part of the check failed, so the list can be missing objects. The notice reads "DataPrism dependants could not be determined because the check failed. Acting on the assumption that this table is unused may be unsafe." | Treat the list as incomplete and check the tab again later. |
A check that fails never shows No dependants found: a failure has its own message or notice. For a static table, the empty text reads This static table is not currently used by any downstream objects.
Both. A Lake table's popup spells the tab Dependant; a static table's popup spells it Dependants. It is the same list of what uses the table in both.
They count the entries in that group for the current check. The groups themselves always keep the same order.
To the object the row names: a table, a transformation, a write-back, a deck, a semantic model, or a Mind. A reference row opens the table it points to, and a Mind row opens the Mind's Sources (or a chat, if you cannot open the Mind's settings).
It starts a new chat with the Mind; its tooltip reads Start new chat. To open the Mind's Sources instead, use the gear button with the tooltip View mind sources.
A reference row adds the referencing column in brackets, and a presentation row adds where in the deck the table is read, such as slide 4 or slides 4, 7.
Rows that stand for dependants you cannot access show a count instead of a name and are never clickable. A Lake row carries no edit action, so nothing opens from it. Every other row can be opened.
Part of the check failed, so the list can be missing objects. It never means the table is unused: treat the list as incomplete and check the tab again later.
Click Retry to run the check again. If it keeps failing, see Lake troubleshooting.
The static table has not been saved yet, so there is nothing to check: Please save the static table first to view its dependants. Save the table and open the tab again.
